BEAUMONT, TX (Lamar University, The Aphasia Conversation Lab (ACL), SKYPE Presentation, September 5, 2018, Noon to 1:00 PM (CT))

I presented “Aphasia, Regaining your language from a stroke” to the Beaumont stroke support group plus my host, Dr. Jamie Azios, Assistant Professor, Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, Lamar University. We discussed that everybody has a story to tell and can educate both the one doing the telling plus the one doing the listening.

We also talked about people with aphasia (PWA) are often called stroke “survivors” which has both positive and negative connotations. We talked about the difference between being a stroke survivor or becoming a stroke educator. Being part of a stroke group, almost by definition, makes all of us become stroke educators who can help others with a stroke finding their way towards recovery. Thank you to Lamar University and the ACL Stroke Group in Beaumont, TX!
