BOSTON, MA (POSTER, 2018 ASHA Annual Conference, Thomas Broussard, Ph.D., poster presenter, 11/15/2018) “Aphasia Recovery: The Impact of Habit & Action on Environmental Enrichment” at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 15, 2018 (Poster #7047 PB 360).
I discusses neural pruning, the structure of habit, synapses and the learning field, and the real-life activities beyond conventional therapy. Speech therapists can’t fix the brains of their patients. But they can prime the habits of previously established environmental enrichment activities. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the activities themselves. It didn’t matter if they was intentional or not. It didn’t mattered if they was unwitting or not. What mattered most was that the activities themselves were the active ingredients that induced neural plasticity and the resultant brain changes. It was a great poster session and a great 3-day conference.
