ELKINS PARK, PA (Sharon Antonucci, PhD, Clinical Director, MossRehab Aphasia Center, MossRehab, 1:30 PM, Tuesday, June 27, 2017). I met my host, Sharon Antonucci and worked at MossRehab for two days; June 26 & June 27.  I had a wonderful time with the Conversations Café Class on Monday, June 26 and about 15 members in the group plus Karen R. Cohen, MSPA, CCC-SLP, the leader of the class. Each of the members talked about their stroke, when they had it, and what they had done before their stroke. They also talked about their recovery. I talked about “journaling fortifying memory” as an important part of recovery. I then joined the Talking Book Club later on Monday, June 26 with the book “Devil in the White City.”  I was then lucky enough to meet with Dr. John Whyte, the Director at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) at MossRehab. We talked for an hour about active ingredients, enriched environment, and his work about defining rehabilitation treatments.

The second day, I presented “A Second Chance at Second Nature: Recovering One’s Language from Stroke & Aphasia” at the Voices of MossRehab Aphasia Center Quarterly Education Program on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.  The presentation was filmed and will be available soon.  Over 50+ people attended with plenty of questions from the audience about plasticity, practice, and motivation.
