SCOTLAND, South Dakota (SD) (Facetime Conference Call with Bruce Kepplinger, Stroke Educator–South Dakota discussed stroke and aphasia learning strategies as a Scotland SD Stroke Group (of two), 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 09, 2020.)
I started the International Stroke Educator Network and this was our second meeting. Bruce has chartered our first state, South Dakota, working to connect people with aphasia especially (but not limited to) rural areas of the country (and around the world) without any (or hardly any) local aphasia groups or clinics.
St. Augustine, FL didn’t have an aphasia group until last year and we are not rural by any means but there are plenty of (large and small) towns without local aphasia groups, whether rural or not.
Our motto is “Each One, Teach One.” There are over 2.5m people with aphasia, each with their own story to tell and learn from other stories. We hope to build a virtual network of people with aphasia to become Stroke Educators, helping other people with aphasia to become educators as well. More news to come! Tom Broussard
