ST AUGUSTINE, FL (Aphasia Awareness Community table at Staples, St Augustine, FL, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 11, 2019).

Tomorrow (August 12, 2019) is the first day of school in Florida. Staples has been helping on Teacher’s Day Donations all summer including a place for a gratis community table. I was lucky enough to be at the table as an educator talking about stroke, aphasia and neuroplasticity.

The manager at Staples told me that today was likely going to be one of the largest crowds this year. I greeted 394 customers today myself. Many were teachers, parents and students. There were probably many more customers that I couldn’t greet because I was still talked with the incoming group! It was really quite something.

I printed out 140 Aphasia ID cards from the National Aphasia Association (NAA) and still have about 40 ID cards left. People were at my table constantly. I provided flyers about Aphasia from NAA and AHA/ASA. I also provided a flyer for my presentation at the Florida Association of Science Teachers (FAST) Annual conference (Oct 24-Oct 26, 2019) this fall…the topic is “Stroke & Learning: The Science of Neuroplasticity”.  Many at my table were teachers and took the flyers for that presentation and some bought some of my books as well.

Thank you very much to the Staples Company and to all of the staff today. It was a GREAT Aphasia Awareness Day!
