ST AUGUSTINE, FL (Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc., Local Chapter 1084, Village Inn, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 28, 2019). My sponsor was John Leslie, President, Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc., Local Chapter 1084. I presented Stroke & Aphasia Recovery to a group of about 40+ Vietnam Vets included Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard, and civilians.
It was a great group with lots of questions and comments including; starting to feel the sense of losing one’s words, other health issues that felt like word finding was the start of a problem, the estimated pace of neural circuitry loss from a ischemic stroke and accelerated aging, diabetes, tPA, no one had heard of aphasia, why everybody curses after a stroke (loss of inhibition), axons, dendrites and synapses, motivation, practice, and plasticity.
The group LOVED the time lapse of neurons connecting with other neurons. Many of group were interested in attending another presentation on Tuesday, 6/18/2019 at 11:00 AM at the St Augustine Shores Riverview Club. It was a great Stroke Month Day with 40 more people learning about aphasia!
