ORLANDO, FL (Aphasia House, Orlando, FL, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2018). I was part of a panel with other people with aphasia, plus Amy Engelhoven, the new Director, Aphasia House, Deanna Coopersmith-Marquez, Miss Z and about 50 students, staff, and family/caregivers. There were several questions: When did you realize that you were different? What part of your recovery did you appreciate? How did your deficits affect your family? What are you doing now that you haven’t done before? It was a good conversation with the group. I donated additional Navy materials (USS MAINE coffee cups, commissioning coins, etc.) for the “Shipbuilding” Room at the Aphasia House and briefly discussed my third book, Stroke Diary, Just So Stories, How Aphasia Got Its Language Back. (That is me as the Hot Dog Man in that picture!)
