This was my fourth visit with the THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center and presented “The Early Pioneers of the new Mind, Brain, & Education (MBE) Science” to over forty people in the audience. About two thirds of the audience had seen me before so most people knew my story, hence a new topic (but still connected) about MBE Science and my aphasia recovery.
The common denominator between speech therapy and education is plasticity. The group had lots of questions (and the people in the front table got an award for so many questions!) about plasticity (and the metaphor with photosynthesis), plus John Dewey (an educator who was also a neuroscientist) and William James (a neuroscientist who was also an educator) who were among the earliest pioneers of MBE Science. The group asked for more information about plasticity for my next meeting. It was a good Aphasia Day!
