Centennial, CO (National Stroke Association meeting, Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM) I had a meeting with Robyn Moore, CEO of National Stroke Association about aphasia awareness.
I conducted a recent study of 19 hospitals in Florida. Of the 19 hospitals, only 4 using the word “Aphasia” anywhere in their website. Using their search box, the remaining hospitals answered, “Sorry, we didn’t find anything for “aphasia.”
Most people do not know anything about aphasia in a world where 30% to 40% of people with stroke acquire aphasia. There are more people with aphasia than Parkinson Disease, cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy but most people have never heard of it. I will continue to search for a solution to a national awareness problem with the National Stroke Association and the National Aphasia Association.
